A New Saint.....

Bl. Fr. Jerzy Popiełuszko

"One must suffer for the truth. That is why I am ready for anything,"

“In order to defeat evil with good, in order to preserve the dignity of man, one must not use violence. It is the person who has failed to win on the strength of his heart and his reason who tries to win by force… Let us pray that we may be free from fear and intimidation, but above all from lust for revenge and violence.” -

"Overcome evil with good".

- Fr. Jerzy Popiełuszko

Priest and Martyr

September 14th 1947 – October 19th 1984

During the time of martial law in Poland,
Fr. Jerzy, who gave his life for the Truth, was murdered
by secret police agents in October 1984.

Prayer

O my God! Thou art infinitely good. You gave Your servant Jerzy Popiełuszko the grace of consecration as an ordained priest until his martyr death. Please grant the request we now make with the words of Pope John Paul II “so that good was born out of this death as the Resurrection from the Cross”. Make Father Popiełuszko, a steadfast defender of rights of God and people, given to our Homeland and the whole world as a sign of victory of love over hatred, be elevated to the glory of holiness. Merciful God, give me grace I sincerely ask You through intercession of God’s Servant Father Popiełuszko. Let His sacrifice of life and His intercession to You, God, contribute to the increase of Christian faith, unity and peace in the world. Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Above prayer was used for the Beatification of Fr. Jerzy Popiełuszko
Approved by Cardinal Józef Glemp, the Primate of Poland, 7 March 1997, No. 736/NK/97.

Beatified 6th June 2010 in Warsaw, Poland.
